My friend wrote a monologue that I’ll be performing at the Holiday Mono-Slam at the Secret Rose Theater this Thursday Night!

Play and workshopping

Today was the final show of Negotiations. It went really well, even though our set broke once again while they brought it out. It wasn’t as bad as last time though and they fixed it quick. It’s just a 3 sided structure with a different thing on each side and it’s hinged together so it’s easier to move, but if you close it too much the hinges pull out. Oh well, they got it fixed.

So yeah, the show went great. We were last this time, so I’m not sure if the house was still full after intermission. Several surprise friends showed up I didn’t expect to be there, so that was super awesome. And now I’m done with that. Yay! It was fun, but I think I’m more inclined to film stuff than theater. I like my acting like i like my men … I like doing something once and being done with it. Just kidding. About men, not acting. I thought it sounded funny though.

Then this weekend there were 2 workshop sessions for the pilot. We came up with a lot of good ideas on how to restructure the script to be more efficient. The writer/producer is letting us take a crack at some writing and we’re all really stoked. We’re meeting this week and then we’ll bring our result in to the next meeting with him to see what he likes and what he doesn’t like. I am really digging the collaboration with this group. I think we’re all on the same page and we all understand the writer’s vision for the story and tone. I’m pretty excited about it. This will likely shoot in early/mid October. That’s the goal.

Theater and now TV!

The play last night was great. It was sold out. We got tons of laughs and I think everyone really enjoyed it. We have one more show in 2 weeks on the 13th if you missed it.

In other news, I was called in to shoot a reenactment show tonight. It’s called Operation Repo and they reenact ridiculous stories from these repossession guys. So I get to run out and yell at my drunk husband, etc. Should be really fun. And it will be my first TV credit. Yay!!

Plus, I just got word I booked a pilot I auditioned for this weekend. Yay! I’m not sure if it’s a web pilot or a pilot to be used for TV pitching. I have a table read Wednesday night, so I’ll find out more then.

Everything’s comin’ up Laurel!

The play!

Rehearsals are going great. We were in the theater today. Tripped over a few lines, but all in all pretty good. They scene changes are timing out well, so that shouldn’t be a problem. Plus we have two stage helpers, one to do lights and one to handle props.
Hopefully the theater will have the AC on during the shows. They leave it off during the day, so we were mighty hot.

I’m really excited because I play 3 characters (maybe 4 depending what you count as a character).

Play time

Monday, July 20th, 2009

It looks like I’ll be in a 1 act play at the end of August if the scheduling works out. It’s a 2 person play but we each play 3 different characters. Should be very fun. Rehearsals will start next month. Yay! I’ll post details of the show when I have them.

Return to the Stage

Wednesday, February 18th, 2009

I haven’t been in theater since high school. I also hadn’t really gone out for it here in LA because I work a regular job and theater rehearsals take up so much time either way. Luckily a friend referred me to a group that meets Sunday nights and workshops original plays. Easy schedule and collaboration in the writing process? Sign me up! Well, I auditioned and got in, so now I am signed up. We start this Sunday. I’m really excited because I like working with a team.

In other news, I have a shoot at the end of the month and two next month so far. Still all shorts, but I’ve had more feature auditions lately. Hopefully feature production will amp up now that the strike is out of the question for the time being. At least that’s what people are saying.
