Finally booked an AFI gig!

Sunday, October 16th, 2016

I haven’t had much going on this year acting-wise because I honestly haven’t been pushing hard for it. Obviously the first half of the year I was out of commission mentally, and now I’m obsessed with producing my short film, so I have way less time to focus on it.

I am still in the SAG conservatory, so every so often I get an audition at AFI. I’ve been wanting to book one for a long time. It’s one of the schools with a great reputation here in LA and I’ve worked with most of the others. So AFI has always been like my student film white whale.

I’m also excited about the role because it’s a really layered character. She’s trying to hold it together while her life falls apart. It’s going to be really fun to play with the ups and downs in it.

On a related note, I always want to get more experience at AFI because I’m hoping to submit to the AFI Women’s directing workshop they do each year. I know 2 women who have done it and it was a really great experience.

Happy Holidays and stuff

Monday, December 1st, 2014

So, I took a break from blogging for a bit. I could say I took a break from acting, but really my normal jobby job was super busy for a few months so I didn’t have enough time for everything. Plus some misc personal life stuff was pretty stressful for a while. But things are ok and normal now. Unintentional break, over!

In the meantime I worked on a few student projects down at USC. I volunteered at a home for teen girls to help with a writing class a friend was doing. My husband and I did a very silly Hulu ad, which I haven’t seen, but apparently a friend of his mom’s did!

Oh and, Delivery: The Beast Within came out on DVD and got some more good responses. I preferred the theatrical poster, but this one is at least better than the UK version. They ended up photoshopping my face on another body, so I didn’t recognize it. I was like, “Those aren’t my ankles! I wish they were, but they are not!” They haven’t announced the streaming or cable dates yet, so I guess those deals are still in the works.

Then this month I get to be in another movie. I can’t say what but it’s going to be very fun. I can’t wait. As a bonus I booked it because they saw me in Delivery, which is pretty rad.

I’m also going back to class with Craig. I haven’t been in class in forever, so it’s so nice to be doing that again as well. All in all, I’m feeling optimistic about 2015. I’m hoping to be more focused than I was the last half of this year. I feel like I got pretty derailed and now I’m taking steps to getting back on track. Wooo wooo! (that is a train noise.)

Anyway, happy holiday season!

Booked a high tech short

Tuesday, May 13th, 2014

Last week I auditioned for a USC graduate production through their interactive research department.  They want to create a short film to demonstrate new technologies they are developing. It will basically serve as a proof of concept as they move forward with development of the tech. I’m pretty excited to see how they are shooting it, since it will require a lot of CG. Unless they are further along in development than I think.

I’m also exited because they gave me a bigger role than I originally went in for.  I went for the older character, since I’m never sure if I pass for under 25, and as in the case here, they could just have me read for the other role anyway. I don’t think they were too concerned with the character’s listed age from the breakdown.

Thankfully, my jobby job is still slow enough that I can easily take a few days off. This summer will be interesting because we are going to be slammed. And the longer we wait for designs, the more busy we will be in June-August. Yikes! I’m only mildly concerned as far as acting gigs. Summer is when a lot of TV shows go on hiatus anyway.

To the mooooooon, me!

Looks like I’ll be on board the mission to the moon. Moonbound24 is a new webseries I’ll be involved in. It’s certainly one of the most amazing audition experiences I ever had, so I’m looking forward to the project. I forget if I signed a NDA (I have the paper somewhere, maybe it was just a release?), so I probably shouldn’t describe it, but it was very fun and crazy.

They are starting the indie go go campaign and will start shooting this month. Luckily they are really understanding of my pending nuptials and can schedule my shoot times in March. Hooray! Everything’s coming up me!

Here is a snap from my audition!  Yes, those are foil kitty ears.

I booked a new short film for USC.  It’s a family drama.  I’ll be shooting in about 2 weeks.  Yay!

Booked small role in a feature

Friday, October 14th, 2011

Today I booked a small part in a feature! It’s working title is FBD. I get to be a frazzled supervisor of a day care center. Yay! It shoots this month.

Grindhouse booking

Tuesday, September 13th, 2011

Just booked a short trailer for a delightful Grindhouse-style flick.  I get to be the heroine! Rad!  We are shooting at the beginning of October. Should be really funny and a fun shoot.

Fan Fic time!

Monday, March 28th, 2011

Booked my first fan fic film.  No, it’s not slash fiction, for all you nerds out there who know what that is.  ;)

It’s a faux documentary about the Battle of Hogwarts, catching up with the children 20 years later reminiscing and recounting the tales.  This means I get to have a British accent!  Hooray!  I feel a little bad not having actually read the series, but they said it was fine at the audition.  If I know people who have read it multiple times, that should make up for it, right?  Anyway,  should be a fun day.

February recap

Tuesday, March 8th, 2011

Man, I’ve been busy. In life mostly. Work got particularly slammed, so the various acting adventures I had were not logged. I was working at home most nights.

Anyway, I guess at the beginning of the month I had rehearsal for the remainder of the short film I did with a USC grad student late last year. We shot a portion of it and she wanted to finish it out. She also wanted to use some scenes for her Directing for Camera class, so the following week we went to her class for an in class workshop. I had done something like it for another student a long time ago, and it’s weird since it’s sort of like you’re performing a film scene, but in a staged way in front of a live audience. Then they all talk about why the student did what, and you’re kind of there for the duration. This one was better because they actually had cameras and talked about more relevant things to shooting a film than the other class had. Also her teacher was pretty delightful and the TA was another student I’d worked with, so it was pretty fun all around.

Then later in the month I started to have more fittings and makeup tests and conference calls for the feature I’m shooting right now. I will be able to blog more specifically about that later. For now it’s under wraps. I’ll probably write entries and save them until further notice. So interesting, right?

Then near the end of the month I booked a voice over gig for a video game! Not sure when I’ll be recording it. I let them know at the audition I’m booked until the end of March, but they said they can see about rescheduling my session. i’m super excited because I want to get into voice over, especially for games, and this will be great to start my reel. The guys are in the USC interactive program and one of my friends went there so they knew him and his game company and stuff. This will be their thesis project and it sounds delightful. I will be one of the main detectives in the story. It’s the kind of game I love, with clues and puzzles and stuff so you solve a mystery.

Then I got to see a screening of the feature i was interviewed for. It’s not technically acting, but it is a narrative film. It’s about a woman dealing with clinical depression and her relationships, etc. It came out great. It’s particularly affecting if you have suffered from depression, because so many situations in the film are so familiar. I’m not in in too much, but when I am I’m actually pretty funny. Even though I’m talking about my experience with depression, it’s a nice little bit of humor in there. It’s a great film. I think it will be screening in May, so I’ll probably post about that when I have more info.

Ok, that’s most of my stuff from February. Like I said, I was working a lot of hours, so not a lot of acting stuff could go on. Needless to say, it was also pretty stressful as the end of the month got closer!

Samurai film!

Wednesday, November 3rd, 2010

Got a call today that I got a part in a short action film. I get to fight!!! YAY! Like pretty hard core fighting. I have a month to prep. Very excited. There is some sword fighting stuff but i’ll mostly be regular street fighting, sans weapons. Just my guns *flexes biceps…. waits for laughs*.

It is shooting over a weekend that I was going to do some background stuff on another short. Normally I don’t do background stuff, but this is a period piece and I love dressing up. It also takes place in a mental hospital, so I figure it will be fun. If I’d only be needed the first 2 days I can do both. but if they are shooting the group stuff on the weekends then I’ll have to drop out. i’m waiting to hear back from that project. I haven’t done my costume fitting yet and they have a month, so if they do need to replace me they have enough time. Hopefully it will work out.
