Cut!

Tuesday, March 19th, 2013

I decided to cut my hair back to a long pixie on Friday.  I tried tolerating the bob as long as I could, but I didn’t like it most of the time.  And as much as people would say they liked it, I did not.  I didn’t feel like I looked good unless I spent a bunch of time styling, and I’m not really into that everyday.  I’m one of those lazy actresses.  So, I chopped it off!  I feel so free!

Then an hour later I got a callback on  a commercial.  Oops!  I don’t think it mattered though.  And I think it looks better this way anyway.  ;)

Good day!

Just got back from my first pilot audition this year.  Felt really good. I wasn’t nervous or anything.  I found parking easily, the gate guard was really friendly.  A girl in the waiting room accidentally spilled coffee on my shoes, and I just laughed.  She was so grateful I wasn’t mad.  I’m like- That’s a silly thing to be mad at.  But I’m glad it put her at ease.

I feel great.  I had to miss 2 auditions because of the wedding, but now that it’s done I’m free again and doing awesome.  I decided to try giving this bob haircut a bit more time.  I was going to cut it, but so far it seems to be working well enough.

Ok, back to work for me!

Good start to a new year

Ah, 2012. You were ok. More of a bridge between bigger things. As acting stuff was slow I occupied my time with wedding planning, so I wasn’t bored. I did finally join the Guild. Met new people, professionally and socially. Was super busy with my day job. But all in all 2012 was pretty good and has carried me to now.

I’m going to try and blog a bit more this year. Well, at least more when I’m not super busy with other life stuff. This year is already gaining momentum. Had 2 auditions today and another tomorrow.
The early one was a mousey girl in glasses with low self esteem, and then a masculine goth chick. Gotta say changing from glasses to contacts in the middle of the day is disorienting. Also, I do look different with this longer hair. The second one got my headshot mixed up with another girl because I brought an older punk one. It’s pretty likely that I will go shorter again after the wedding. I just think this longer cut will work better with my dress. :)

I guess that’s all that’s new.

best waiting room

At my audition this morning the waiting room was full of dudes with guitars and … CATS!  It was wonderful.  Most were in little carriers, but some were out and one was on a leash.  Sooo cute.   I wish I was around more Iams commercial auditions.

And you say to yourself, “Well, how did I get here?”

Last week, after planning another trip out of town, I got another ‘first’ TV audition. Luckily my trip was to San Diego ComicCon and I could leave whenever.

So I finally got my first real TV audition, and get this – it was for a series regular on a network show!  What!?  How did I get that?  Usually you’re not even called in for those until you have a bunch of guest star roles, and those you don’t get until you’ve done a bunch of co-stars.  But hey, I ain’t complainin’.  I’m also realistic in my expectations.

Really my intentions were to have the office like me, so even if they don’t see me as the regular cast member, maybe they will bring me in and book me on the small stuff as the series gets going.  I felt good and confident.  I performed as I saw the character.  I left happy with my work.  That’s all you can do.  It was a pre-read with the Casting Director, so it wasn’t taped or anything.  He picks the ones he likes and they go on to audition for the producers and stuff.  I didn’t hear back today, and although I have no idea how long they are doing the pre-reads,  I’m going to enjoy his little ego boost of getting in the room and then let it go.

I usually don’t blog about auditions.  I usually let auditions go once I leave the room, but this one is a little more exciting, so I figured I’d blog it.  It’s a new milestone for me.
