Migraines & Makeouts

Wednesday, October 27th, 2010

This weekend I shot a short film for a USC grad student. Friday the lead guy was shooting a western out in the desert, so the other actress and I split the day shooting our solo stuff. It worked out really well. She was done in the morning and then I came over. Efficiency! Then I was done by 4 so I could work that night and not be behind on day-job work.

Saturday we did not shoot. I had some workshops and some auditions. I started not feeling well so I cancelled my second one. I stayed in that night and got up to go to bed a bit before midnight. I put my laptop in my bag and then when I went to go pick up the mouse and stuff my hands felt all weird, like I was holding something. They were tingly and sort of felt like the traded places. And the room felt all wonky and suddenly I couldn’t speak. I’d try to form words and sentences, but nothing or nonsense would come out. I finally got out the words that I should go to the hospital. You know, in case I had a stroke. Not being able to speak and having tingly hands is scary.

After some tests they determined my brain was ok and it was a migraine. I had no idea they could do that, but they totally can! Good to know. By the time we left the emergency room at like 4 am I had my words back- I also had a really bad painful migraine by then. So I went to sleep and hoped for the best for Sunday.

I could sleep in a bit since my call was at 11. I was still dizzy and tired, but I got up and pulled myself together. I felt ok at the beginning of the day, but after a couple hours I got hit with a regular migraine. Blind spots. Headache, but not super bad. Luckily most of the day we were lying in a big comfy bed so I could doze in and out between takes. It helped a bit. I was feeling pretty crappy most of the afternoon but felt ok at the end. Just in time for our big makeout scene. I just go in the door and we kind of attack each other. It is sort of hilarious and intense. Like, I haven’t done one like that.
I generally dislike the love scene type stuff, but you gotta do it when you’re an actor. And my boyfriend isn’t weird about it, so that’s good. It’s just weird when you’re doing it. It’s like, ‘this dude isn’t my boyfriend. How do we make this not be awkward?’ Teamwork. Ha ha. It was actually fun though since it’s so aggressive. It’s more awkward when I am kissing a dude all romantic like. This was almost like a fight and fights are fun. We had another normal kissing scene earlier in the day, but it was short.
I’m also mostly in my underwear with just a Tshirt on. It’s quite the saucy project. I should really get in better shape if I am going to be in my underwear on camera so much though. Goals!

The footage was really nice, so I think it’s going to be good. I think it will be done before the end of the year.

One of my first short films is available on Itunes now! Cheerbleeders – only $2. It is a delight and a great short for Halloween time. (contains bloody violence and comedy.)

Leading Ladies update

We screened up in Seattle tonight. I was sad I couldn’t be there because I love Seattle and have a bunch of friends there. But it sounds like it was a big hit. Yay!

Also, a great little snippet from Denver – “I spent the first 5 minutes thinking this was going to be a corny, overacted piece of crap. I spent the remaining 97 totally enchanted by an adorably campy, smart, wholly original romantic comedy/musical—which also happens to be Colorado-made.”

There are several upcoming screenings in the next few weeks:

Alexandria Film Festival :: Washington, D.C., Friday, November 5, 2010 at 7pm, AMC Hoffman Center 22

Starz Denver Film Festival :: Denver, CO, November 6, 2010 at 7:15pm and November 7, 2010 at 4pm, Starz Filmcenter at the Tivoli

Soggettiva Film Festival :: Bologna, Italy, Saturday, November 6, 2010 at 8:30pm (Closing Gala Featured Film)

Reeling Film Festival :: Chicago, IL, Thursday, November 11, 2010 at 9:30pm, Landmark Cinemas

St. Louis International Film Festival :: Saturday, November 20, 2010

Weekend activities

Monday, October 18th, 2010

Saturday I had an audition for a punk rock bartender character, so I went really literal and wore a Little Bar tank top and my belt with the ‘Rock’ buckle. I also got a decent faux hawk going. I think they got a kick out of it at the very least.
After the audition I went to a table read for the director of Follower. He’s finishing up a screenplay, so it was time to hear it out loud. It’s a dark character piece. I picked the snarky pot head character, since I still looked like a punk. It was kind of funny since that’s basically the character I was playing in Follower. It seemed like everyone’s feedback was helpful for him since it’s so close to finished.

On Sunday I had a rehearsal for the short I’ll be shooting this weekend. It went really well. I get to wear a really cute dress that I wish was mine. Alas, i’ll have to give it back. I came up with a funny title for the piece. We’ll see if she uses it. There’s a bit of dialog about this nightstand and it’s about two exes hooking up one night even though the guy has a new girlfriend. So I suggested ‘One Nightstand.” I am a sucker for puns!

Then I went and edited some clips of films I’ve done so I can post more media on my character pages. I don’t want a reel that’s to long, but there are some fun scenes I want to post for folks who want to see extra stuff. It took a while to render, so I’ll probably post them tonight.

New Look

Thursday, October 14th, 2010

I got kinda bored recently and redid the look of the site. I’m getting much better at my wordpress/stylesheet skills. I haven’t gone through everything to make sure it’s all looking right, but most of it is good so far.

Another film: Sci-fi Thriller

Thursday, October 14th, 2010

I booked another short film. It’s sci-fi, one of my favorite genres! I play the love interest and the one who exposes the conspiracy to the lead. We’ll be shooting over 2 weekends in November, though I am probably not needed every day.

New project

Monday, October 11th, 2010

Booked another student film today. I get to be a dysfunctional musician trying to get her ex-boyfriend back. It’s a great character because she’s still got a lot of issues getting in the way of her having healthy relationships- which is something I can relate to. I was saying to the director at the audition- give her like 5 years or so and she’ll get her shit figured out. Then she will be ready for a healthy relationship.
I like the way she’s written, because you see her lash out at times, and do bad things, but it comes from a place of pain and confusion. I think it’s going to be a really nice project. She’s a singer, but she said I don’t need to be a great singer. Phew! I guess it’s easy enough to dub someone else if i can’t hit the notes.

More modeling stuff

Monday, October 11th, 2010

This weekend I met up with a friend who wanted to practice some photography. I had her meet me at the park that Chris Malcolm had introduced me to. (As usual I parked too far down and forgot how to get in. I think I have it figured out now though, so next time I won’t get lost.)

The lighting was really nice because it was afternoon, and we had a lot of rain recently so all the greens were really vivid. They came out lovely. I will post them when I get them. Should be in the next few days.

The Night Life at Shockfest

Wednesday, October 6th, 2010

The Night Life will be screened at Shockfest this year on Nov 12th and/or 13th.

Paragon

Wednesday, October 6th, 2010

Then this week I booked a big role on an upcoming web series. A couple rad things: my character is written to be steampunk (!!!) plus I get to have an accent. I auditioned with a sort of middle class (at least how I interpret it) British. I am no expert on the various dialects, so I just base it on how it sounds. I do another nondescript lower class version, but this one felt more appropriate. It’s a sci-fi series and I’ll be a large guest role. I’m not sure how long episodes will be or how many I’m in. It’s going to be super fun! Hopefully they have a budget for awesome costumes, but that’s me being a little selfish because I want to dress awesome. Either way it’s a delightful character. We don’t have a shoot schedule yet, but hopefully in the next month or so we will get started.
