Down time

Thursday, May 21st, 2009

Hey.  I have a minute to sit while we prep for camera tests.  Actually in the middle of that. Sentence I was called upon to help set up for it.  Hehe.  I' recall me adventures later.  There are typos there but I don't want to fix them on my phone.

Ok, blog later.

Champaign has some nice people in it.

Seriously. After the hair salon we were all treated to a home cooked meal at this family’s house who are also investing in the film. It was soooo good. I was sad that Nicole, Erika and Chloe had to miss it because Nicole was still having her hair dyed. They got fed, mind you, but they had to order something there.

Speaking of the hair dying, the stylist donated all afternoon and evening to redoing all our hair! (Mine is actually all the same color for the first time in years. She magically got the rest of the black at the ends to not be black. A-mazing.) The generosity we’re seeing from so many people is just incredible. It’s really touching. Plus we are having such a wonderful time.

I also got to geek out over progression of technology with the 1st AD, Tone, after dinner. We got to talking about old school internet protocols and eventually got up to what I do now and modern graphics type stuff. It’s sort of rare finding someone who sort of gets what I’m talking about when I talk about technical parts of my job. We also spent a surprising amount of time discussing baseball, and I actually followed and contributed to the conversation, which is even more random than talking about Telnet.

Hair! And stuff.

We're at the hair salon.  Benji, Nicole and I are getting dyed today.  So fun!  Also this stylist knows her shit.  I am loving hearing her talk fashions and rad color ideas.

This morning I had my fitting which went well. We had a lot of stuff that worked well already. They're going to go through my stuff I brought and see what they want to use from it.

Then we had the first table read today.  it's great having everyone together.  Well, almost everyone.  Lacey is booked until wednesday so she will be here then.  I'm excited to meet her.  We'll have like half a week to hang out before we shoot.  Woo!  And they haven't cast the smaller supporting roles yet.

After the read we had AMAZING pizza from Jupiter's. Mmmmm.

Then rehearsal of, like, the level 10 dramatic scene.  Might as well hit the ground running.  Melanie is sooo great as the mom.  She doesn't even realize how great she is and I think it's adorable.  Melanie:acting::Me:dancing.  I'm a bit nervous to dance with these pros.  But we did some practice at lunch and it seemed pretty good.  I'm sure it'll be fine.  Tomorrow is dance.  Ack!

I'm still dying my hair right now.  That's all we have today.  Then BBQ at one of their friends' houses nearby.  There may be adorable dogs.  I will keep you posted.

And tomorrow Aimee (not sister but friend) will swing into town to see me.  Weee!

Sweet production offices and housing

Sunday, May 17th, 2009

Our housing is great. me and Nicole will be sharing our suite with the caterer when she arrives. We picked up a few basics that we need for the place like soap and trash cans. We’ll figure out what else we need later. I’m mostly unpacked except all the stuff I might use for wardrobe, which I’ll bring to my fitting in the morning.

The production offices are basically like an entire building. There were even copy machines and such already there. I guess someone knew a guy who knew a real estate guy so it’s all free for us to use. Yay!! We checked out all the wardrobe stuff they have so far. it’s going to look awesome. I have the first fitting in the morning. then later we do a table read then some dance after lunch. then I may get a break while they go to the salon for Nicole, but I think now I’m coming with. I’m not sure.

So far we are having fun with everyone. The crew are all great and helpful and positive. Melanie is totally getting into character- I have her yell at me when I slouch – which is like, always. Benji announced to the CVS that he really needed to make out with someone. not sure if that was in character or just an open invitation. 😉

Um, I think that’s it for today. i should go to bed even though i’m not very tired. sleeping all day on the plane + time zone change + exciting new adventures = not sleepy Laurel.

On the road again

Sunday, May 17th, 2009

We're driving down to champaign from Chicago now.  We got Melanie now so the only family member missing is Lacey.  I think she'll get here at the end of the week.

I got food in me and some excedrine.  Not eating + wearing my glasses = headache.  Getting better though and I'll likely sleep in a bit.

Witch of Portobello finally on IMDB

Saturday, May 16th, 2009

They finally processed the IMDB page for the Witch of Portobello: The Peter Cherney Chapter. It has taken a ridiculously long time for them to go through the listings Craig put in. But it’s done now! Yay!

Packed and Ready?

Saturday, May 16th, 2009

I hope so! I have almost everything checked off my lists other than stuff I am currently using. I have a large suitcase with all my wardrobe stuff, then a medium sized suitcase full of shoes, bathroom stuff, and hobby stuff. then I have my big ol’ laptop roller bag which will be my carry on and then my purse. Done. the bags are heavy, but I don’t feel like I’m over packed since I’ll be gone 7 weeks. And I had a bunch of wardrobe stuff for the film to bring. Maybe I under packed. I have no idea. I’ve never been gone so long. I’ll be fine though.

Last night I had a party to see folks before I left. It was a lot of fun and I made sure not to drink too much because I had my last dance lesson this morning. I think the last people left about 2AM, so I didn’t stay up terribly late.

Then today I finished out my last 2 lessons, one with Willem and one with one of their female instructors, Tessa. She is all around smaller than I am so it was a nice change from trying to lead a fellow who is taller than me. Not that I’m complaining, it’s just harder I think. And the girls in the film are closer to her size, so it was a nice practice leading a smaller girl. Plus then Willem could see what I was doing outside of just trying to dance with me. I got a bunch of fresh tips from today’s lesson. I feel stronger with each one. Oh, I also finally got the hang of the tuck and turn in swing. Yay!

I brought them a little potted flower as a thank you. Then Willem gave me a Swiffer and bungee chord! Hilarious! I managed to fit it in my bags so if I start to puss out during rehearsals, Melanie and Erika can tie me up and get my frame back in shape. It really is helpful.

All Tied Up – Dance Lesson 18-19

Friday, May 15th, 2009

Willem tied me up today so I can practice twisting my body, not my arms. Bondage Dancing!

We also added the tuck and turn to the swing stuff. I need to practice that one a lot, but the other moves are working pretty well.

We found out where we will be staying for the next 6 weeks! They are fairly new apartment suites. We’ll have our own rooms and shared bathrooms, kitchens and living areas. It’s near (on?) the campus so there are a lot of businesses within walking distance. Should be pretty sweet. they aren’t owned by the school, but they generally accommodate a lot of students during the school year. We are getting a great discount because the Church that owns the properties is very pro-gay and are really excited about the project. So we are really excited to be staying there and in turn supporting the Church so they can do more to promote equality in the community. Rad!

Plus the building is uber green. Bonus! We are such a progressive production!

*edited 5-22-09 to hide where we are actually staying. It occurred to me there might be creepy stalkers following Benji or something out here.
