Russell and Susan added an imdb page today for Life Between Interviews. Hooray! I will hopefully get a copy in January I think. Last I heard they were getting it sent to the printer.

On a related note, this week my 'star rating' went from 436,812 to 83,032. I don't really know how they calculate that, but that jump seems a little ridiculous. Oh well. I'm sure in a week's time I'll be somewhere in the 200,000 range, and so on.

A Violent Cause

Today I shot a quick indie short for a pair of young filmmakers. It was just 2 other actors so it went really fast. Lots o' blood. Hopefully the bed wasn't stained! Sounds like I'll be doing another short for them next month or so.

I put together a cute little 1 minute montage of various characters I've played. I figured it was an efficient way for me to show my diverse range. It's set to a kicky little Paul Simon tune. Tra la!

I added 4 credits and changed the name of The Absent Journalist to its new name, Life Between Interviews.

I will have another shoot for a day next week. Busy month! Hopefully it will keep up in the new year.

Price of Progress

What a week! But i already went into that. Now i must talk about the shoot! It was a delight. Everyone was so great. The director/co-writer is a Japanese guy in his senior year at Chapman University and this is his thesis. He was awesome. He knew what he wanted and also trusted us to do our jobs well. He found lots of talented people to work on it. The 1st AD was totally on top of things. That's gotta be one of the toughest jobs on set. Keeping everyone on task, on time. The DP all the gaffers, hair, wardrobe, makeup, etc. Everyone was friendly and worked well together and made the set a fun place, but still got the job done. It was such a great experience- and not just because I got to have awesome 1950's hair. The other actor was talented and I felt like we had really good chemistry. I can tell already that everything will look beautiful. It's shot on B&W 35mm.
I can't wait to see it, but it won't be done until at least April. In the meantime here are some shots the director took on set (turned B&W for effect).

Whew! I made it through the busiest week I've had in a while. I figured if I could make it through then I can keep on going for this whole acting thing while still managing my regular job.

So it went like this:

Sunday -
12:30 - Audition
1:30-3 ish - shoot for a holiday video for Funbox comedy
__ - find out I had to rebuild 6 weeks worth of graphics in only 2 weeks for regular job.
__- panic a bit.... then get to work
6:00-midnight - shoot for Sauce on the Side webisode

Monday -
Midnight-4am - work like a fiend!
4-9ish - sleep
9-1:30 - work, less frenzied.
1:30 - leave for photo shoot and rehearsal for indie short
2:30 ish - find out others are stuck in traffic for at least an hour, reschedule...
3:30-8ish - work
9-1AM - Shoot for Sauce on the Side webisode

Tuesday -
8-4ish - Shoot for Price of Progress (work on laptop between set-ups)
7-2:30AM - work until I got a migraine and lost too much vision to continue work. yay stress!

Wednesday -
6AM - drive b.f. to airport. (go back to sleep.)
10-1:30 work
2:30-8:30 Shoot for Price of Progress (work on laptop between set-ups)
9-1AM work

sleep!

Thursday -
normal work day! at the office even! plus a little at home that night.

Friday -
9AM-9PM - Shoot for Price of Progress
9-1AM - finish the rest of the work of the highest priority!

Saturday -
8-9:30 - Photo shoot and rehearsal for indie short.
1-9:30 - Shoot for Price of Progress

Done!! Woo!

I managed to have my cake and eat it too. I had actually requested and been approved for vacation days for the shoot, but there was no way I could actually take them with the last minute changes they needed. It wasn't too bad, it was just sort of exhausting. Luckily everything seemed to be fine with what I sent to my colleagues.

So yeah, I made it through. I can do this.

Monster on the Set

Today I shot a commercial spoof about a director cracked out on Monster energy drink. They are shooting a pretend Bond film, so I am the Bond girl. I have a phony Russian accent for a line. Woo! It's very silly and funny. It's also done in one long shot, which I love. Plus no editing! (besides sound adjustments.) So i will probably have a copy posted in the next few days. Yay!

It's a bunch of footage I also used on my reel actually. I think I should update my reel soon though. Make a longer one and then also maybe a commercial one when I get my footage from the spec I did.

I didn't like how some of the pages were set up so I did an update last night. i still need to tweak the look of my resumé page, but it's much better now with a larger scroller instead of small ones. It also makes it easier for me to add stuff to.

I also scrapped the home page since it was pretty pointless. So this is my new home page. I thought made the most sense.

The Red Ace Cola Project

Tonight I finally saw The Red Ace Cola Project and it was delightful. It is a story of a female scientist trying to get respect in a man's profession. It's all old-timey. There is a wonderful long tracking shot in the middle. I just love stuff like that. Kudos to Susan and Chuck for pulling it off.
I was actually on set twice, once helping out being PA/script supervisor for a day and another being one of the 'hula hoop kids' at the end. I could not actually hula hoop so there is just a shot of me drinking soda and then all us ' hula hoop kids' together smiling.
Ilana was such a trooper. I was there the day they did all the water stuff and she had to be in a pool of cold water on a not so warm day. Then she was shot at with super-soakers full of caramel-colored liquid. I never heard her complain. Bravo ma'am. Nice job in the film overall as well.
Funny coincidence- it turns out she is in my friend Ben's improv troupe, Bobby Hot Stuff. Check them out. They perform at IO a lot, probably other places too.

Near the end of the screening I had a headache so I left before the last film and the after party. Alas. But I got to see a lot of folks I hadn't seen in a while before hand, so I guess it's ok.

Invasion

Monday and Tuesday this week I shot a NYFA short. It was a Kung Fu comedy short by a student from Thailand. It was interesting. I didn't get to do any fighting, but hey, sometimes a girl just gets to play the victim. Alas.

I'm eager to see how it all comes together. There were some really interesting things in it.

We finished shooting the U. of Texas short on Wednesday. I had a lot of fun and I will miss playing with the gun. I kind of want one for myself. It was an air gun for BB's and looks like a regular hand gun. Nice prop to have available.

Today's shoot involved shooting! But no actual shooting, just implied shooting since it's a student film, shot indoors and on a budget- all done with camera tricks. We had an air gun so it makes a noise and kicks, but doesn't take bullets. I actually shoot one person, as the psych ward escapee, bent on revenge against her high school tormentor. We have a few more shots to do on Wednesday at another location, but most of it was done today. Tra-la!

Gum Chewer

Yesterday I went down to Orange to shoot a short for a Chapman University Student. It was crazy hot but she had plenty of sun screen, so we were protected. Everything went really well, though my feet were pretty sore in my new boots. It also took me like two and half hours to get home. that's why i won't audition in Orange County. Sorry, O.C. that's just too far for a maybe.

The short is about this girl who gets harassed in a parking lot by this douche bag until finally she turns it back on him. When I auditioned I was like- this actually happened, didn't it? And she's like- yeah, but not to this degree.

Tomorrow I have a shoot for some University of Texas students. I get to use a gun! Woo!

Comedy Death-Ray

The whole show was great and the film was well received. The only drawback was that Patton was working late as Remy the Rat and was unable to attend. He had a friend come in his place, so the film didn't quite have the same introduction it probably would have, but it seemed like the audience really got a kick out of it, though they weren't sure what to expect going into it.

It was a little odd screening a film short at a comedy show, but all in all it worked because it was more of a variety show overall. Singers, magicians, comedians, video sketches, and Peter's film. Awesome!

I wish I could have met Patton, but I'm really glad he liked the film and wanted other people to get to see it.

In other news I am shooting a student short next Friday and then another short is slated for mid-December. Woo!

Patton Oswalt hearts Cheerbleeders

I am just delighted since I am a huge Patton Oswalt fan so that's why I keep bringing it up. Peter just called to let me know that Oswalt is going to screen Cheerbleeders at next Tuesday's Comedy Death-Ray Halloween Spooktacular at UCB theater. It looks all sold out but I emailed to see if there was a chance I could get one or two tickets. If not, oh well. I just wanted to get to see the reaction in that setting. I think it will go over well. It's a delight.

The Absent Journalist

Yesterday I went down to Huntington Beach to shoot a short film called the Absent Journalist. I would describe it as a fast-paced character study about a journalist who is unsatisfied with the direction of his life and isn't quite doing a lot to improve it and how he interacts with the people around him who are really in the same boat.
I play the seemingly happy-go lucky coffee shop girl, Summer. I think they wrapped up the rest of the shoot today or will this week sometime. It's going to be an editor's dream project (or nightmare depending on how you look at it) - lots of quick smash cuts, lots of rhythm in everything. Should be a sweet little film when it's done.

Today I shot a commercial for Wishbone Salad Spritzers. It is a thesis for a student at Art Center in Pasadena. I think it will turn out totally delightful. Tomorrow they are having all these people dressed as salad get dressing or spritzer dumped on them in a giant salad bowl. I am not a salad person. I am the real person who spritzes her salad.

Next Saturday I will be shooting a short independent film in Orange County. Busy weekends!
